# Jumeirah (Dubai)

> From Sunset Beach the Burj Al Arab stands to the south-west: front-lit at sunrise, side-lit in the evening, and never quite in line with the setting sun — it goes down to the right of the tower even in December.

Jumeirah is the low-rise coast between the Creek and the Palm: villas, public beaches and, at its southern end, the sail of the Burj Al Arab on its own island. The beaches here face west and north-west, which makes them evening beaches for the sea and morning beaches for the hotel: at sunrise the light comes from behind you and lands on the tower’s face, while at sunset the sun drops into the sea to the right of it. People book sunset for the sky and are surprised the tower is a darker shape; we show both and let you choose. The hotel itself has been closed for an 18-month interior renovation since April 2026, which changes nothing about the view from the beach.

The other half of the coast is calmer. Kite Beach has wide sand, palm shade and a promenade that suits families and toddlers; the kitesurfers there are part of the scene in the afternoon sea breeze and a hazard to stand near. Jumeirah Mosque, further north, is open to non-Muslims on guided cultural visits and is one of the few mosques in Dubai where that is possible — a visit, not a photoshoot location, with dress code. Madinat Jumeirah’s canals and wind towers sit beside the Burj Al Arab, but they are a resort, and resort rules apply.

## When to go

October to April for evening beach sessions; sunrise works all year and is the only option from June to September. In winter the shamal can bring a day or two of blown sand and white sky. Kite Beach on Friday and Saturday afternoons is busy with families — fine for us, but the wide frames go to weekday mornings.

## Photo spots

### Sunset Beach, Umm Suqeim

- Coordinates: 25.148, 55.194
- Best time: Sunrise for the tower; sunset for the sky
- Access and permits: Free — public beach

The beach behind Jumeirah Beach Hotel with the Burj Al Arab to the south-west — the standard Burj Al Arab frame. At sunrise there is almost nobody, and the hotel is lit from the front; in the evening the beach fills with photographers and families, and the tower becomes a shape against an orange sky.

- **December–January**: The sun sets in the south-west, closest to the tower all year — still about fifteen degrees to its right — so the sky behind the hotel is at its warmest.
- **May–August**: Sunset swings to the north-west, out over the open sea, and the tower is lit only by the afterglow. Sunrise, around 5:30, is the better frame.

### Kite Beach

- Coordinates: 25.163, 55.207
- Best time: Early morning, or the hour before sunset
- Access and permits: Free — public beach

A long, wide beach with the Burj Al Arab in the distance to the south-west, shaded palm areas and a promenade with cafés and showers. Good for families with small children and for sessions that need room to run. Kitesurfers launch here in the afternoon wind; we keep well clear of their lines.

- **November–March**: The afternoon breeze brings out the kitesurfers and keeps the beach cool; the last hour before sunset is the family slot.
- **June–September**: Mornings only: sunrise around 5:30, and the promenade cafés open after the light has gone hard.

### Jumeirah Mosque

- Coordinates: 25.234, 55.265
- Best time: The morning guided visit, Saturday to Thursday
- Access and permits: Paid guided visit run by the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding; modest dress required, abayas lent

The white stone mosque on Jumeirah Road, open to non-Muslims during the cultural programme’s guided visits, when photographs are allowed. It is a visit to add to your trip rather than a session location: the exterior from the road is the frame we use, in the soft morning light before the traffic builds.

### Madinat Jumeirah

- Coordinates: 25.133, 55.187
- Best time: Blue hour, when the lanterns are lit
- Access and permits: Resort property — professional sessions need Jumeirah’s approval; hotel guests are easiest

Canals, wind towers and abras inside a resort, with the Burj Al Arab directly to the north. Evening is the moment: lanterns on, water dark, the tower lit behind. Because it is private property, we arrange approval in advance; without it, Sunset Beach gives the same tower from public sand.

## Frequently asked questions

### Where is the best Burj Al Arab photo spot?

Sunset Beach in Umm Suqeim, for the full building with nothing in front of it. At sunrise it is lit and the beach is empty; at sunset it is a silhouette and the beach is busy. Madinat Jumeirah gives a closer, framed view, but needs the resort’s approval.

### Is the Burj Al Arab closed?

The hotel closed in April 2026 for an interior renovation of about 18 months. The building is still there to photograph from the beach; access to the island and its restaurants is not possible until it reopens.

### Is Jumeirah good for a family photoshoot with small children?

It is the easiest part of Dubai for it: flat beaches, parking close to the sand, shade, toilets and cafés at Kite Beach. Book the first hour after sunrise in summer or the last before sunset in winter, and bring a change of clothes — children go in the sea.
