## In short

A desert drone shoot in Dubai starts from $450 for 90 minutes on the dunes at golden hour, flown by a licensed operator under a flight approval we arrange. You receive 20 edited aerial photos within 48–72 hours and a 60-second aerial film within two to three weeks.

The desert is where aerial work in Dubai is realistic. The city, the Palm and everything near DXB are controlled airspace; out on the dunes, away from the conservation reserve, a licensed operator can fly with a permit for that place and time. From above the ridges become lines and a couple becomes two figures with long shadows — a frame that only exists when the sun is low. We confirm the flight before you pay for it, and visitors’ own drones stay in the bag.

## How the shoot is planned

Most often the session is on the open dunes of Al Marmoom, south of Al Qudra, where there are no towers on the horizon and the airport is far away. The operator arrives ahead of you to check the wind and pick a firm patch of sand for take-off. While the sun is still a little higher, the drone climbs for straight-down frames: you on a crest, the ridges reduced to lines. As the light drops it comes lower to follow you walking a ridge for the film, then pulls slowly back to reveal the dune field. The final pass looks down on your shadows stretched across the sand. Ninety minutes leaves room to repeat a move that drifted the first time.

## Timing

Wind matters more here than on any ground shoot. A light breeze barely affects a steady flight line, while a strong shamal lifts sand into the air and is a reason to move the date. That makes calm days from November to February the best window, with the 90 minutes placed so the lowest sun falls in the middle of the session. Ridge shadows are long enough to read from above only shortly after sunrise or before sunset, which is why the slot is fixed to the minute. In summer the shoot moves to sunrise, and haze whitens the horizon, so the overhead frames carry more of the result than the wide views.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does a drone photoshoot in the Dubai desert cost?

The dedicated desert drone shoot starts from $450: 90 minutes, the licensed operator, the flight approval, 20 aerial photos and a one-minute film. If you only want a handful of aerial frames during a ground photoshoot, the drone add-on is $150, but it is offered only where flying is permitted — and in Dubai the desert is the realistic place for it.

### Can I fly my own drone in the Dubai desert?

We would not plan on it. Flying in the UAE is regulated, visitors generally cannot register a drone there, and your own drone is best left at the hotel. Our operator flies a registered drone under an approval for the specific place and time. The rules do change, so the current position is confirmed when you book.

### Can we combine the drone with a desert or flying dress photoshoot?

Yes, and it is the most efficient use of one sunset. The photographer works at ground level while the operator flies from the ridge behind, so close portraits and aerial frames come from the same short window of good light. The flying dress is especially strong from above, where the train becomes a single stroke of colour. We then choose dunes where both the session and the flight are allowed.

### Can the drone fly over the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve?

No. The reserve is closed to drones, and visitors enter it only with its licensed operators, so its oryx and untracked sand remain a ground-level subject. For aerial work we use open dunes outside protected areas — most often Al Marmoom, south of Al Qudra — where an approved flight is realistic and the sky is clear of towers.
