## Planning around children and the heat

Children decide how a family session goes, so the plan starts with them. Thirty minutes ends before the youngest gives up, and with a few frames planned in advance it still yields 20 edited photos, even with a pause for a snack. For under-fives, sunrise often works better than sunset: they are awake anyway, the beach is empty, and in summer it is still bearable at 6 am, while at 5 pm the air can be well over 40 °C.

Sand and shallow water keep children busy and give the photographer unposed moments; Kite Beach and JBR beach both shelve gently and have showers nearby. With grandparents or a pushchair, the flat promenade at Al Seef or the Madinat Jumeirah walkways are easier than dunes. Matching outfits are unnecessary — two or three coordinated colours in plain fabrics look better in print and avoid the team-uniform effect.

### Morning or evening with small children?

Morning. An evening session has slightly better light and noticeably worse moods, and in summer the sand is still hot at six. Sunrise on a quiet beach — Kite Beach, Saadiyat, the Al Mamzar side — is cool, empty and over before breakfast.

### Do we need matching outfits?

No — matching white shirts photograph as a uniform. Pick two or three colours that sit well together and let everyone wear their own version.
