## In short

A sunrise photoshoot at the Burj Khalifa costs from $230 for 30 minutes on the Downtown lake promenade, starting 15 minutes before the sun comes up. You get the last of the blue light, then the tower catching the first sun, with nobody behind you — and 20 edited photos in a private gallery within 48–72 hours.

From the lake promenade the Burj Khalifa stands to the north-west, so the rising sun lands directly on the side you are looking at and turns the glass gold from the top down. At that hour the promenade belongs to cleaners and joggers, and there is room for wide frames that are impossible after six in the evening. In winter we start around 6:30; in summer around 5:15, and we are finished before the promenade passes 35 °C.

## How the shoot is planned

You meet the photographer on the Souk Al Bahar side while the plaza is still dim. The first frames use the blue light: the spire against a pale sky, and the lake flat enough to hold a reflection, because at this hour the fountain is silent. When the sun clears the horizon it reaches the top of the tower first and slides down floor by floor, so the photographer keeps you in one place and photographs the change instead of chasing new backgrounds. Your face stays in soft shade while the glass behind you brightens — even light on skin, a glowing tower. Once the gold has reached the lower floors, you cross the bridge for full-length frames that are impossible later in the day, with nobody in the background.

## Timing

The season changes the frame more than the crowd does. From November to February the sun rises low in the south-east and lights the face of the tower for most of the first hour — the best mornings of the year, with air clear enough to keep the spire sharp. From June to August sunrise comes from the north-east, so the tower is lit from the side, and by 7:30 the light is already hard. August and September add humidity that fogs a lens for ten minutes after an air-conditioned car, which is why the photographer arrives early. Burj Park is fenced off ahead of New Year, and the whole district closes for several days around it.

## Frequently asked questions

### What time does a sunrise photoshoot at the Burj Khalifa start?

Fifteen minutes before sunrise on your date, so the session holds both the blue light and the first sun on the tower. In practice that is about 6:45 in January and about 5:15 in June. We send you the exact meeting time and point on the Souk Al Bahar side once the date is fixed.

### Is the Dubai Fountain on at sunrise?

No. The shows run in the early afternoon and every half hour from 6 pm, so at dawn the lake is still. That is the point of the morning: without jets and spray the water holds a clean reflection of the tower, which is a frame the evening never gives. If the fountain itself matters to you, the evening session on the Opera side is the better booking.

### Can I have hair and make-up done before a sunrise shoot?

Yes. The artist comes to your hotel before the session ($180), so the alarm is earlier still, but you arrive at the promenade ready rather than rushing. The make-up is done to hold up in morning humidity, and the artist keeps a touch-up kit for the bridge, where a breeze off the lake can move hair.

### Is a Downtown sunrise shoot worth booking in summer?

It is the only Downtown session that makes sense in summer. The light is from the side rather than the front and haze can soften the top of the tower, so summer frames lean on closer portraits with the lower floors behind you. You are finished before the promenade becomes too hot to stand on.
